Today, the nation solemnly gathers at Black Star Square for the state funeral dedicated to the six remaining victims of the tragic Z-9 helicopter crash.

The chairs are filling with families, national leaders, military representatives, and citizens united in grief and honor.

The state funeral for the August 6 helicopter crash victims began with a 90-minute pre-burial service at 7:30 a.m., followed by a full military ceremony shortly after 8:00 a.m.

Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations) Stan Dogbey said the service, featuring tributes and Qur’an recitations, reflected the nation’s deep reverence for the fallen.

After the ceremony, the remains were transported with full honors to the Military Cemetery at Tse Addo.

To facilitate the event, police enforced road closures and traffic diversions around Black Star Square and central Accra, with designated parking at the Accra Sports Stadium, Osu Castle, and Efua Sutherland Park.
Security agencies maintained a strong presence to preserve order and solemnity.

The funeral marked the conclusion of a week of national mourning, which included lowered flags, vigils, and memorials nationwide. President Mahama called for unity in the wake of the tragedy, urging: “We must not only mourn as one but commit to healing as one.”
