The family and management of highlife legend Daddy Lumba have announced that his one-week observance will now be held at Black Star Square in Accra on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
The event was initially scheduled for the University of Ghana stadium, but the venue fell within the La Traditional Area, where a noisemaking and funeral ban is in effect from August 11 to September 5 as part of the Homowo festival.
The La State Council formally reminded the organisers to either relocate or postpone the ceremony.
To avoid inconveniencing mourners, organisers opted to move the observance while keeping the original date. Black Star Square also hosted the candlelight vigil for the late musician, which drew thousands of fans, industry colleagues, and dignitaries.
In a statement, Daddy Lumba’s family and management apologized for the change and assured the public that the programme will go ahead as planned.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause and appreciate your understanding,” the statement read.
The one-week observance is expected to attract a huge crowd as tributes continue to pour in for Daddy Lumba, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest musical icons.
