NPP is broke; flagbearer aspirants forced to pay extra gh¢4m – Kennedy Agyapong

Flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has alleged that all five aspirants in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race were compelled to pay an additional GH¢4 million each as a “development fee” aside from the official filing fees.

Speaking to party members in the Western North Region, the Assin Central MP said the demand stemmed from the party’s financial crisis just eight months after losing power.

“What’s even disgraceful now is that all the aspirants are paying four million for development fees. I took my form for a hundred thousand and filed for five hundred thousand. I was told there was a deadline, so I had to give them four million,” Kennedy stated.

He argued that the NPP’s current struggles highlight the need to resource its structures better while in power, citing the opposition NDC as an example.

“If contracts were given to our contractors, will we have been standing there when NDC was distributing money and we cannot be doing the same?” he asked.

Mr. Agyapong urged delegates to trust his leadership, pledging to strengthen both the party and the country if elected flagbearer.
