The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested Alhaji Sofo Azorka in connection with an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman during the September 2, 2025, Akwatia by-election.
According to a police statement issued on Friday, September 12, Azorka was picked up in Tamale on September 10 as part of ongoing investigations into the incident.
Police say a caution statement has been taken from the suspect, who has since been granted bail.
He is expected to report to the Eastern South Regional Police Command in Kyebi on September 16, 2025, at 10 a.m. for court proceedings.
The Police assured the public of thorough investigations into the matter and urged calm as the case progresses.
The alleged assault occurred during heightened tensions at the by-election, where Masawudu Osman was a key political figure.
