A joint security operation has destroyed illegal mining sites along the Ankobra River in the Western Region, burning down makeshift structures and seizing mining equipment.
The exercise, carried out on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, involved the NAIMOS Task Force, Western Regional Security Council, Western Naval Command, and Nzema East Blue Water Guards.
The raid covered communities stretching from Dwira Ashem through Dominase to Akango in the Nzema East Municipality.
Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, disclosed the development in a Facebook update, noting that the coordinated assault on galamsey activities resulted in the destruction of 20 makeshift structures, 10 dredging platforms, and 20 chanfangs.
Security personnel also seized 15 pumping machines, four motorbikes, two solar panels, a standing fan, a television set, and three gas cylinders.
According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, NAIMOS had, over the past three weeks, been leading similar joint operations with security forces to clamp down on illegal mining along the Ankobra River.
He stressed that the campaign forms part of government’s sustained effort to uproot galamsey operations and restore the integrity of Ghana’s water bodies.
