The government of President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has assured residents of Mamponteng and the Kwabre East Municipality that it will, at all costs, complete the long-abandoned Mamponteng Jubilee Market project.
The market, which was initiated on August 1, 2012 with funding from the District Assemblies Common Fund and other special sources, has remained uncompleted for years.
Its abandonment has displaced traders, forcing many to sell under unsafe high-tension poles, while the site itself has become a haven for criminal activities.
Speaking during a working visit to the Ashanti Region, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang stressed that completing the project was a national responsibility, not a partisan one.
“Our responsibility is to complete all abandoned projects, regardless of who started them. That’s the NDC,” she said.
She underscored the need for decent trading conditions, especially for women.
“If our market women are unable to sell their produce under proper conditions, how do they feed their families?” she asked.
The Vice President further pledged that the Jubilee Market, once completed, will create over 1,000 jobs for residents of Mamponteng and the Kwabre East Municipality.
“By all means possible, have my assurance that government will complete the abandoned Mamponteng Jubilee Market,” she declared.
The Mamponteng Jubilee Market is among several stalled projects the government has committed to revive nationwide under its development agenda.
