Mahama’s three epistles to the justices of the court of appeal: courage, integrity, and humility

President John Dramani Mahama has urged the newly sworn-in Justices of the Court of Appeal to serve with courage, integrity, and humility.

According to him, these tenets must underpin their daily pronouncements in order to rekindle public confidence in the judiciary and reaffirm that justice cannot be bought, delayed, or bent by influence.

“The first is courage, the second is integrity, and the third is humility. Courage to resist pressure, whether political or financial, and to uphold the law even when it is unpopular. Integrity to ensure that justice cannot be bought, delayed, or bent by influence. Humility to remember that power is given not to rule over the people, but to serve the people,” President Mahama stated.

He emphasized that Ghanaians must once again believe that the courts are not distant temples of law but living guardians of fairness.

The President made the remarks on Thursday, October 2, 2025, when he swore into office 20 Justices of the Court of Appeal at the Jubilee House.

“History remembers not those who followed the path of least resistance, but those who stood firmly for principle when it mattered most. At this moment in our national journey, Ghanaians need reason to hold onto hope. They need to believe again that the courts are not distant temples of law, but living guardians of fairness. Every decision you make can rekindle that belief. Every ruling you make can remind citizens that Ghana is still a land where truth prevails and justice is not for sale,” he stressed.

President Mahama has sworn in 20 new Justices of the Court of Appeal, along with Mrs. Franklina Gesila Adanu.

The new Justices are: Justin Kofi Dorgu, Daniel Mensah, George Buadi, Olivia Obeng Owusu, John Bosco Nabarese, Jennifer Anne Myers Ahmed, Emmanuel Senyo Amedahe, Kwasi Anokye Gyimah, Dr. Richmond Osei-Hwere, Francis Apangano Achibonga, Ali Baba Abature, Abena Asuamah Oppong, Mariama Sammo, Mary Maame Ekua Yanzuh, Ayitey Armah-Tetteh, Charity Akosua Asem, Enyonam Adinyira, Sheila Minta, Douglas Seidu, and Charles Adjei Wilson.
