The Minister of State, Hon. Felix Kwakye, has commended Ghanaian journalists for their credibility, commitment, and immense contribution to national development at the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards, held at the Alisa Hotel on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
The annual event, organised by the GJA, celebrates outstanding journalists and media professionals who have demonstrated excellence in promoting truth, accountability, and professionalism in the media landscape.
In his address, Hon. Kwakye lauded journalists for their relentless efforts in uncovering hidden truths and keeping the public informed.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to safeguarding press freedom and protecting the rights of journalists.
“The President has assured that under his leadership, the rights and freedoms of journalists will be respected and upheld,” he stated.
Touching on the influence of modern technology, the Minister observed that the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has introduced both opportunities and challenges for traditional journalism.
While AI has enhanced the speed and reach of information dissemination, he said it also demands greater responsibility and vigilance from media practitioners.
“The invention of AI has challenged traditional broadcasting, but it also presents new tools to reach wider audiences. Journalists must, therefore, maintain discipline, credibility, and accuracy while staying in tune with the changing times,” he urged.
Hon. Kwakye further revealed that government is developing new measures to strengthen journalistic practice, empowering the media while ensuring that freedom of expression does not compromise public order or national security.
He concluded by encouraging journalists to uphold professional ethics and use their platforms responsibly to promote peace, growth, and national unity.
