The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, has visited Assistant Immigration Control Officer II (AICO II) Daniel Kofi Oppong at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he is receiving treatment after surviving a violent attack at the Gbintri checkpoint in the North East Region.
The tragic incident claimed the life of AICO II Rafiq Mohammed, who was on duty with him at the time.
During the visit, CGI Amadu expressed deep sorrow over the loss and strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a “cowardly act” that would not shake the resolve of the Service in protecting Ghana’s borders and combating crime.
“This cowardly attack will not deter us,” he affirmed. “We remain committed to safeguarding the borders of our country. Our officers will be provided with the necessary protective gear and logistics to carry out their duties effectively.”
He also appealed to the general public to assist the Service with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
The visit formed part of Mr. Amadu’s tour of the North East Region, aimed at assessing operational readiness and boosting morale among frontline officers.
He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOI) Maud Anima Quainoo, Head of the Public Affairs Department; DCOI Thomas Adjei, Northern Regional Commander; Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Gordon Saah, Chief Staff Officer; and other senior officers.
The Ghana Immigration Service continues to work closely with other security agencies to ensure justice is served.
