Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on Ghanaians living abroad to remain united and actively contribute to the country’s development, assuring them that the government values their role in Ghana’s progress wherever they may be.
Addressing members of the Ghanaian community in Maryland, the Vice President conveyed warm greetings from President John Dramani Mahama, saying she had been tasked to find out how Ghanaians abroad were faring. She commended them for their positive representation of the country, noting that reports about Ghanaians overseas continue to make the nation proud.
She expressed the government’s appreciation for the unwavering support of the diaspora, stressing that the bond between Ghana and its citizens abroad remains strong despite the physical distance.
According to her, Ghanaians abroad continue to occupy an important place in the country’s development agenda.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged that the current administration inherited significant economic and governance challenges but emphasized that government is determined to transform those difficulties into opportunities for national growth.
She said the focus is on building a stronger and more prosperous Ghana for all.
The Vice President urged Ghanaians, regardless of their political affiliations to put national interest first and rally behind the country’s development.
She said “this is the time to set aside partisanship and work together to build the Ghana everyone desires.”
She outlined government’s priorities, including improved roads, access to safe drinking water, quality education, better healthcare, environmental protection, and safer communities, describing them as shared national aspirations that transcend politics, religion, and other differences.
She further encouraged Ghanaians at home and abroad to demonstrate sacrifice, determination, courage and unity, expressing confidence that together they can reposition Ghana for greater progress and build a brighter future for generations to come.
