Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has reaffirmed that President John Dramani Mahama is prepared to assent to the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill once it is passed by Parliament.
According to Mr. Ayariga, he has personally engaged the President, who assured him that he would sign the bill into law after it completes all the necessary legislative processes.
The clarification follows concerns raised by First Deputy Chief Whip, Habib Iddrisu, who questioned the delay in concluding parliamentary work on the bill, alleging that the Majority side appeared to be avoiding the matter.
In response, the Majority Leader reiterated that the government remains committed to completing the legislative process and that the President is ready to give his assent once Parliament passes the bill.
“The President has made it clear that once the bill is duly passed by Parliament, he will not hesitate to sign it into law,” Mr. Ayariga stated.
Responding to the concerns, the Majority Leader reiterated that President Mahama is prepared to assent to the bill as soon as Parliament passes it, a position he noted contrasts with that of former President Akufo-Addo.
