The management of GOIL PLC has issued a strong public warning after a fraudulent, AI-generated video surfaced on social media, falsely depicting its Group CEO and Managing Director, Mr. Edward Abambire Bawa, as announcing a supposed “government-backed gold project” or “customer reward scheme.”
In a statement on Thursday, the company described the video as maliciously fabricated and entirely false, stressing that GOIL has never undertaken any gold-related venture, government-backed project, or customer reward scheme.
“The content is fake, deceitful, and clearly generated using artificial intelligence (AI) for fraudulent purposes,” the company said.
GOIL condemned the act as a criminal attempt to defraud and mislead the public, warning that it constitutes a serious cyber offense.

The company said it is working closely with security and cybercrime authorities to track and prosecute those behind the video.
The company further urged the public to be vigilant and to rely only on official information channels, including its website, www.goil.com.gh and verified social media accounts.
“GOIL PLC remains a responsible and transparent corporate institution committed to ethical business practices and to protecting the interests of our valued customers and stakeholders,” the statement added.
GOIL also reiterated its corporate commitment to upholding integrity and maintaining public trust built over decades of service in Ghana’s energy sector.
