A stunning breakaway: Bastian Dieti rises above the peloton to win tour du Ghana stage

Bastian Dieti of Obroni Cycling delivered a commanding performance to win the second stage of the Tour du Ghana, an 80km stretch from Ho to Fume.

Dieti broke away from the peloton in a decisive move, maintaining his lead to secure a solo victory and cement his status as the stage winner.

The stage began with 58 riders, and the action sparked early with an intense contest for control of the race.

The top three finishers secured bonus points, with Dieti taking the maximum three points, followed by Tom Wyfve of the Netherlands with two points, and Burkina Faso’s Soumaila Ilboudo with one point.

After launching his attack, the Obroni rider maintained a relentless pace, opening up a significant gap and leaving the peloton to battle for the remaining podium spots.

Dieti crossed the finish line in a remarkable time of 2:06:57, finishing more than two minutes ahead of his closest challengers.

The contest for second place proved tightly fought, with the Netherlands’ Tom Wyfve finishing in 2:09:05.

He narrowly held off a strong late challenge from Burkina Faso’s Soumaila Ilboudo, who claimed third place in 2:09:11.

Further down the field, competition remained fierce, notably in the sprint for 11th place, where Belgium’s Fil D’Heygere edged Obroni’s Aaron Wehde by just over a second.

Riders from Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Benin, and the Netherlands featured prominently in the top 20, reflecting the high level of competition.

Team Ghana showed resilience, with Victor Cudjo Akpabli emerging as the top-ranked Ghanaian rider.

The team time trial results showed razor-thin margins, with Team Obroni recording the fastest cumulative time of 2:06:57.

Teams from the Netherlands (2:09:15.679), Burkina Faso (2:09:17.292), and Belgium (2:09:18.841) followed within seconds of one another, underscoring the intensity and competitiveness of the tour.
