FIFA to Award Super Bowl-Style Rings to World Cup Champions .

FIFA will hand out championship rings to the winners of Sunday’s World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, a first for the tournament ,borrowing a tradition long associated with American sports like the NFL’s Super Bowl and NBA Finals.

Thirty custom rings, each featuring a mini World Cup trophy and an engraved band, will go to the winning squad, with an additional 1,996 replicas available for fans to purchase. The winning captain and head coach will receive temporary rings on the spot after the final, with the finished, custom-fitted versions delivered later.

President Trump is set to present the trophy at MetLife Stadium, with White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirming his attendance after FIFA President Gianni Infantino had earlier said Trump would be there. It will mark Trump’s only appearance at a match this World Cup he skipped all 102 games played so far, including every one of the USA’s matches before their last-16 exit to Belgium.

A weather advisory is in effect in New York over air quality linked to Canadian wildfire smoke, though there’s no indication it will affect Sunday’s final. The two remaining matches of the tournament England vs. France in Saturday’s third-place playoff, and Argentina vs. Spain in Sunday’s final will both be played on U.S. soil, with the U.S., Canada, and Mexico having co-hosted the World CuP.
