Vice President of Ghana, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has emphasized the importance of purpose-driven innovation and collaboration in shaping the country’s technological future.
Delivering the keynote address at the 10th Congregation Ceremony of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stressed that while technical skills are essential, they are insufficient on their own and must be guided by innovation rooted in a clear sense of purpose.
“The pursuit of technological advancement must be anchored in our realities, yielding solutions that are affordable, accessible, and sustainable,” she declared.

The Vice President underscored the need for interdisciplinary collaboration, community engagement, and sustained investment in developing projects that deliver practical improvements to everyday life.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang commended the University’s founding visionaries and acknowledged the collective efforts of academic, administrative, and traditional authorities in nurturing UENR’s growth.
She lauded faculty members and researchers for their commitment to excellence and expressed appreciation to parents and guardians for their unwavering support.
In a call to action, she urged leaders, private investors, and industry partners to deepen their engagement with the University, stressing that policy alone cannot deliver meaningful outcomes.

“Strong systems, partnerships, and investment are essential,” she emphasised.
Addressing the graduating class, the Vice President charged them to uphold integrity in their professional pursuits.
“Let integrity guide your work. When challenges arise, return to the fundamentals that brought you here: discipline, curiosity, and a commitment to excellence. Ghana needs your ideas, energy, and willingness to work together,” she said.
As the University conferred degrees on the Class of 2025, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang congratulated the graduates, noting that “Ghana counts on you to help shape a brighter future.”
