President’s Sahel Envoy receives released Nigerian aircraft,  crew in Ghana

Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Sahel, Col. Larry Gbevlo Lartey, has received a Nigerian aircraft and its crew following their release by authorities in Burkina Faso after being detained for an alleged airspace violation.

The aircraft and crew were handed over to Ghana after diplomatic engagements between the governments of Nigeria and Burkina Faso, which led to an amicable resolution of the matter.

Receiving the crew on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, Col. Gbevlo Lartey commended both governments for resolving the incident through dialogue and diplomacy.

He said the development underscored the spirit of brotherhood and cooperation among countries in the West African sub-region, noting that disputes could be settled in a neighbourly and peaceful manner.

The Nigerian crew is expected to remain in Ghana temporarily to rest, conduct technical checks on the aircraft, and await clearance before continuing their journey to Portugal, where the aircraft is scheduled for servicing.

The statement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, MP, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
