President Mahama swears in first woman Auditor General; reiterates need for independence of state institutions .

President John Dramani Mahama has sworn into office Ghan’a first female Auditor General, Dr. Pamela Graham.

Her appointment comes at a time public interest in overseeing prudent financial management of state institutions is on the ascendancy.

According to President Mahama, the independence of state institutions has especially the office of the Auditor General cannot be compromised.

“The independence of your office is fundamental to the credibility of our governance system. That independence must always be protected, and it must equally be exercised responsibly, professionally and fairly” he stressed.

The President emphasized that “Ghanaians rightly expect every public institution to demonstrate value for money, prudent stewardship of national resources and the highest standards of integrity”

Speaking at the swearing in ceremony at the Presidency on Thursday, July 2,2026, President Mahama swears called on the Auditor General to discharge her duties devoid of any political interference.

The event was attended by the Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, Chief Of Staff Dr. Julius Debrah, immediate past Auditor Generals, Daniel Yaw Domevo who was removed from office by Former President Akufo Addo, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, board members of the Audit service among other government officials.

President Mahama reiterated government’s commitment towards resourcing the audit service for the maximum results.

“My Government will continue to strengthen the Ghana Audit Service through investments in modern audit technologies, digital systems, capacity building and institutional reforms that will enable the Service to discharge its constitutional mandate effectively” he assured.
