Government reaffirms commitment to welfare of healthcare professionals as President Mahama announces recruitment of 16,000 more nurses.

Government has reaffirmed commitment to ensuring the welfare of healthcare professionals across the country is prioritized.
It has since announced the recruitment of sixteen thousand (16,000) professionals in two batches.
Addressing a durbar at the Ho Municipal Hospital on Thursday, July 17, 2026 under the Free Healthcare programme in the Volta region as part of his #Resetting Ghana Tour, President Mahama underscored the need for these nurses and healthcare professionals to exhibit the willingness to provide services in underserved communities while government continues to prioritize their welfare.
“Government therefore takes the welfare of nurses and health professionals very seriously. As the economy continues to improve, we will continue to work towards improving your conditions of service so that you are encouraged and motivated to continue the important work you do” President Mahama said.

He added that government is giving clearance for 16,000 nurses in earnest with priority deployment to rural Ghana. This he said will prevent the phenomenon of delayed posting.
“We are therefore providing clearance for the recruitment of 16,000 nurses in two batches. The condition is that many of those being recruited will be sent to underserved areas where healthcare needs are greatest” he stated.

President Mahama charged these healthcare professionals to be emphatic in the discharge of their duties.
“Sometimes, a simple smile and reassuring words such as ‘you will be fine, we will attend to you and give you the best care’ can make a great difference in the recovery process” he urged.

President Mahama is a two – day Resetting Ghana Tour of the Volta region where he will inspect on going government projects, cut sod for new ones and open his government for scrutiny.
