Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza has inspected ongoing works on the Accra-Tema Motorway and Extensions Project and called on contractors to intensify construction efforts to meet the project’s completion deadline.
The inspection forms part of the Minister’s nationwide tour of major road projects aimed at assessing progress and addressing challenges affecting timely delivery.
At the Accra-Tema Motorway site, being executed by Maripoma Enterprise Limited, Mr Agbodza was briefed on the status of the 27.7-kilometre motorway and the 19.5-kilometre Section One of the Tema Roundabout project.

Project engineer Kwabena Bempong reported that works have reached approximately 50 percent completion and have now entered the pavement stage. He noted that the project incorporates bridges, footbridges and upgraded drainage infrastructure designed to reduce flooding and enhance safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
According to Mr Bempong, drainage structures are being upgraded to meet current design standards, while several existing bridges, some in continuous use for more than 60 years are being replaced or rehabilitated.
The Minister praised the contractor for the heightened activity on site and the successful completion of a major bridge without any incident involving the travelling public.

However, he urged the company to accelerate the pace of work, particularly by carrying out disruptive activities at night in line with the government’s 24-hour economy agenda.
Mr Agbodza emphasised that dedicated lanes should be maintained during the day to minimise inconvenience to motorists, while foundation and earthworks should be prioritised under the current favourable weather conditions.
He stressed that the public should not be subjected to prolonged disruption and therefore called on the contractor to remain focused on meeting the agreed deadline.
The Minister also disclosed that government has so far paid more than GH¢23 billion to road contractors, the largest single outlay on capital expenditure for roads. He expressed confidence that the impact of these investments would become visible across the country by the end of 2027.
Mr Agbodza reaffirmed government’s commitment to completing ongoing road projects while carefully balancing expenditure with other critical sectors of the economy.
