Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (Goldbod) has taken a strong exception to claims by the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo Markin insinuating that Goldbod incurred losses in the year 2025.
Sammy Gyamfi says the claims by Afenyo Markin are unwarranted and a mere smear campaign to undermine the efforts of the entity in promoting economic stability.
Speaking at the Public Accountability Series today, Sammy Gyamfi said such demands by the Member of Parliament does not arise from any genuine quest for accountability or any sincere desire to interrogate the
operations of the GoldBod.
He said such comments are rather destructive.
“It is part of a calculated smear campaign aimed at undermining the significant contribution that the GoldBod is making to the economic transformation agenda of President Mahama’s administration” he said.
You will recall that Afenyo Markin at a news conference in Parliament earlier this week accused the Gold of contributing to over $1.7 billion losses in gold trading following the company’s incompetence.
But Sammy Gyamfi who punched gaping holes in the claims by the Minority Leader also said the referenced International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) document cited by Afenyo Markin did not make such attributions.
He says since called on well meaning Ghanaians to disregard such claims adding that Goldbod will not be swayed.
“The GoldBod will remain focused on its mandate. We will continue to account transparently for our stewardship. And we will not be distracted from the important work of creating value for the Ghanaian people from the exploitation of the gold resources of our beloved nation” he stressed
Mr Gyamfi further warned that attempts by Afenyo Markin and his allies will not wash
“The Ghanaian people deserve serious public discourse founded on facts, evidence and truth, not an endless recycling of falsehoods in the hope that repetition will lend them credibility and turn fiction into facts”. He retorted.
