President John Dramani Mahama has called on developed nations to honour their climate-finance commitments, stressing that Africa contributes less than 4% of global greenhouse-gas emissions yet bears some of the heaviest impacts of climate change.
He cited floods, droughts, coastal erosion and desertification as growing threats, including the devastating June 29 floods in Ghana, which killed 39 people and left one person missing.
President Mahama says climate support must come through predictable, non-debt-creating grants not loans that deepen the debt burden of vulnerable economies.
“Climate change is the ultimate test of global equity,” he said.
