Police probing the disappearance and suspected murder of 33-year-old Nana Yaw Kyere, popularly called “Dinero,” say a violent encounter at a house in Teshie Agbleza led to his death, the dumping and burning of his body, and the later sale of his iPhone 12.
Kyere was declared missing on 22 September 2026 after he drove away from his Kokomlemle home in Accra in his Honda Civic three days earlier and never came back. Officers from the Ghana Police Service Missing Persons Unit have arrested three people in connection with the case: Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, Sarah Osei Adams and Josiah Obodai.
Police say Adams allegedly drew Kyere to Tefe’s residence in Teshie Agbleza. Both have since admitted their roles, according to investigators. Officers stated that Tefe clashed with Kyere and struck him with a metal object, leaving him injured. The injured man was moved to another room and left alone; he later died there, police recounted.
The body was then loaded into a Kia Morning and driven to a spot near the motorway on 20 September, police said. It was allegedly abandoned in the bush and set alight. Charred remains were found at Community 18 on 21 September a day before the formal missing-person report was filed. Kyere’s mother and an uncle confirmed the identity of the remains at the Police Hospital morgue on 24 September.
Another key lead emerged from the victim’s phone. Detectives recovered the iPhone 12 and tracked it to a man who allegedly bought it from Tefe for just GH¢100. The purchaser, named as Sunday Omeje, has been cautioned and held on suspicion of receiving stolen property. Tracing the handset helped officers reconstruct the movements of those believed to be connected to the crime.
Obodai was taken into custody over the alleged removal of the body. A Kia Morning registered to his father, which police believe was used to carry the remains, has been seized.
Tefe, Adams and Obodai are still in custody and are expected to face court as inquiries continue. Police added that they are still working to identify and arrest any other individuals who may have taken part in the alleged kidnapping and killing.
The account of the fight, the death, the disposal and burning of the body, and the sale of the phone rests on early police findings and statements made by the suspects. Their suspected roles remain under investigation and will be tested in court.
