The government has secured a partnership with Huawei Technologies to train 3,000 girls in Artificial Intelligence under the Girls in ICT programme.
Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang announced this at the graduation ceremony for 80 students of the Heritage and Cultural Society of Africa (HACSA) Foundation’s Tech for Girls Programme in Accra. The ceremony also marked the launch of the 10th Anniversary HACSA Sankofa Summit.
She said the initiative forms part of efforts to equip young women with skills in emerging technologies to improve their employability. She added that the government has begun introducing digital skills training in basic schools.
“We are taking this effort into higher education. Government is partnering with some tertiary institutions under the One Million Coders Programme,” she said.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reiterated that the government has reserved 50,000 slots for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under the One Million Coders Programme to create job opportunities for them in the IT industry.
Founder of HACSA and former Ghanaian Ambassador to France, Johanna Svanikier, urged the graduates to adapt and grow in the evolving technological world.
Speaking on her behalf, Ohene Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem Prempeh stressed the need to invest in women, noting that such investment benefits the entire economy.
