Local Government Minister Mahama Ayariga has announced that new regulations will soon require Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to broadcast their meetings live on local FM stations.
He made the disclosure at a breakfast meeting with development partners and ministry officials in Accra. According to the minister, the directive is intended to boost transparency, accountability and public involvement in local governance.
Mr Ayariga noted that the Ministry is already providing support to regional radio stations and will issue the necessary guidelines to ensure assemblies transmit their proceedings live. The policy is expected to give more citizens the chance to follow discussions and decisions at the local level, especially those who cannot attend meetings in person.
The move forms part of wider efforts to deepen decentralisation and encourage greater citizen participation in the work of local authorities.
