President John Dramani Mahama will convey a high-level stakeholders meeting on Thursday, October 7, 2026 to find a lasting module of sustaining traffic flow for the Ayalolo contra-flow.
Thursday’s meeting has been conveyed especially because the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Mahama Ayariga has indicated the current system is unsustainable.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, October 5, 2026 Mr. Ayariga state the President’s satisfaction with the trail and is thus calling for a permanent antidote to the capital city’s congestion.
“President John Dramani Mahama recently approved the trial of the contraflow system that has enabled easy and rapid movement of several thousands of city commuters during peak hours using the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) “Ayalolo” buses” he stated.
Adding that “he (President Mahama) is satisfied with the initial success achieved and has further scheduled a meeting of stakeholders in his office on Thursday 7th October to review the trials and give appropriate directives on how to sustain the exercise permanently’’ Mr Ayariga hinted.
Mahama Ayariga assured that the contraflow has come to stay as a means of easing the urban mobility pressures on the citizenry.
“I want to assure you that contraflow as a way of rapid mass movement of commuters within our congested cities has come to stay until we have developed other ways of easy mobility in our big cities” he assured.
