IGP Yohuno charges newly promoted DCOPs to work harder

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr Christian Tettey Yohuno has charged 22 newly promoted Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCOPs) to intensify efforts in reducing crime and enhancing public safety nationwide.

The officers, elevated from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), were recommended by the Police Council and subsequently approved by the President.

Addressing them at a promotion ceremony held at the Police Headquarters in Accra, IGP Yohuno noted that the officers had each served a minimum of four years in their previous rank and had shown dedication and commitment to the Ghana Police Service.

He emphasised that the promotion recognised their contributions to crime prevention and was also intended to inspire them to assume greater responsibilities within the Service.

The newly promoted DCOPs are expected to take up regional commands and other senior positions.

IGP Yohuno urged them to justify the trust placed in them by collaborating with fellow senior officers to safeguard lives and property, enabling Ghanaians to go about their daily activities in peace and security. He further challenged them to help uphold and strengthen the image of the Ghana Police Service as they take on their new roles.

The IGP expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for approving the promotions, describing the elevations as an incentive for the officers to intensify their contributions to the fight against crime.

Speaking on behalf of the 22 newly promoted officers, DCOP Ruben Asiwoko thanked President Mahama for approving their elevation. He also expressed appreciation to the Vice President and Chairperson of the Police Council, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Muntaka, and members of the Police Council for their leadership, guidance and confidence in the officers.

DCOP Asiwoko further thanked IGP Yohuno for his leadership and commitment to the professional development of the Ghana Police Service. He acknowledged that the promotion carried greater responsibility and pledged, on behalf of his colleagues, to justify the confidence placed in them by serving Ghana with professionalism, discipline, dedication and fairness.

“This promotion is not only an honour but also a greater responsibility. We therefore pledge to justify the confidence reposed in us by serving the Republic of Ghana with dignity, professionalism, discipline, dedication and fairness, while upholding the Constitution and the laws of Ghana,” he said.

He added that the newly promoted officers would continue to uphold the Constitution and laws of the country while advancing the interests of the Police Service and protecting the people of Ghana.
