All Africa Games Volunteers clash with Police at Legon

There was drama this afternoon at the Pentagon Hostel at the University of Ghana, here in Accra when volunteers recruited for the just ended 13th All-African Games clashed with officials amidst gunshots, over their allowances.

This resulted in confrontation and led to firing of gun shots by the police.

The volunteers allege officials have withheld their allowances of GHC2,000 each, in addition to their promised transport fare of GHC500 per head.

They are demanding allowances promised for different roles such as Protocol and Ceremonies, Transport, Accreditation, Accommodation, Janitorial, Crowd control, Medical, Logistics and Supply, Games Venue, Catering, and Language Liaison, Flag Bearers, Placard Bearers, and Marshals, amongst others.

The incident, barely four days after the official closing ceremony is raising eyebrows, especially after leaked documents show millions of dollars spent on the games.
