Daddy Lumba’s one-week observance relocated to black star square

The family and management of highlife legend Daddy Lumba have announced that his one-week observance will now be held at Black Star Square in Accra on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

The event was initially scheduled for the University of Ghana stadium, but the venue fell within the La Traditional Area, where a noisemaking and funeral ban is in effect from August 11 to September 5 as part of the Homowo festival.

The La State Council formally reminded the organisers to either relocate or postpone the ceremony.

To avoid inconveniencing mourners, organisers opted to move the observance while keeping the original date. Black Star Square also hosted the candlelight vigil for the late musician, which drew thousands of fans, industry colleagues, and dignitaries.

In a statement, Daddy Lumba’s family and management apologized for the change and assured the public that the programme will go ahead as planned.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause and appreciate your understanding,” the statement read.

The one-week observance is expected to attract a huge crowd as tributes continue to pour in for Daddy Lumba, widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest musical icons.

La state noisemaking ban stalls Daddy Lumba’s one-week celebration

Plans for the one-week celebration of Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu (Daddy Lumba) face disruption following a strict noisemaking and funeral ban imposed by the La State Council.

The family had announced the observance for Saturday, August 30, at the University of Ghana sports stadium in Legon, an event expected to attract thousands of mourners, industry colleagues, and dignitaries. Lumba died on July 26.

But the chosen venue lies within or close to the La Traditional Area, where the ban remains in force until Friday, September 5, at 6:00 p.m.

As part of ongoing Homowo festival rituals, the Council has prohibited not only loud activities but also funerals and any funeral-related gatherings.

“This ban strictly prohibits funerals and all funeral-related activities of any kind. There shall be no compromises whatsoever in the enforcement of this directive, enforcement will be done without fear or favor,” a statement from the La Homowo planning committee read.

Signed by Jeffrey Tetteh, assistant secretary of the committee, the directive warned that individuals or groups who flout the rules “do so at their own risk and will face the full weight of customary and lawful sanctions.”

The development leaves uncertainty over whether Daddy Lumba’s one-week observance will go ahead as planned.

GTA denies replacing Akan, Ewe greetings at Nkrumah Park

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has rubbished reports suggesting that Akan and Ewe inscriptions on the welcome signage at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra have been swapped for a Ga greeting.

Social media claims alleged that “Akwaaba” (Akan) and “Woezor” (Ewe) had been replaced with the Ga word “Oobakɛ.”

In a statement, GTA Chief Executive Officer, Maame Efua Houadjeto, described the allegations as false and misleading.

“We wish to categorically state that at no point has the Ghana Tourism Authority ordered or approved the replacement of the culturally significant greetings ‘Woezor’ (in Ewe) and ‘Akwaba’ (in Akan) with ‘Oobakɛ’,” she stated.

She clarified that the existing inscriptions remain unchanged and continue to reflect Ghana’s cultural diversity. According to her, any modification to the signage would require official approval from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, as well as other relevant agencies.

Mrs Houadjeto further stressed that the GTA neither sanctioned nor had knowledge of the alleged changes, urging the public to disregard the misinformation. She also encouraged Ghanaians to continue supporting the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park as a symbol of national unity and heritage.

The controversy stems from earlier demands by some Ga citizens for their language to be included on national signages situated on Ga land. The debate has since spread to Kotoka International Airport, where AI-generated images of signage bearing “Oobakɛ” instead of “Akwaaba” have been widely circulated online.

Pastor Solo drops a new single titled “Enter”

Gospel musician Pastor Solomon Ohene Akuffo, known in music circles as Ps Solo, has released a new song titled “Enter”

According to him, his latest single, Enter, was inspired by a disturbing TikTok video he came across.

The video showed a young man abusing a drug known as “red,” struggling to keep his eyes open.

That image reminded him of Romans 7:15, where Apostle Paul speaks of the struggle with human weakness and addiction.

“The picture touched me deeply,” Ps Solo explained. “I thought, even if God said He had granted this young man entry into heaven, in his state, he wouldn’t even be able to open the gate and enter, unless God Himself did it for him. That is how much we all depend on God’s grace.”

For Ps. Solo, the song is a call to humility and repentance. “We have all faced some form of addiction or weakness,” he said. “We must admit our struggles, know ourselves, and apologize to God for falling short,” he added.

Ps. Solo was born to Mr. and Mrs. Akuffo and raised in Amanase, a suburb of Suhum in the Eastern Region.

He hails from Akropong Akwapem and has a wife with three children.

Ps Solo’s musical journey began in 2015 when he released his debut album of eight tracks.

Financial challenges, however, prevented him from promoting the project as widely as he hoped.

Interestingly, his gift for songwriting came as a surprise, even to him. Never a member of a church choir, he says inspiration often strikes during meditation and prayer.

Outside of music, Ps Solo has worked with Ghana Airways and Daddo Maritime Services, but his calling to use music as a tool for ministry has remained strong.

Through his song “Enter,” Pastor Solomon blends music, scripture, and real-life experiences to deliver a message of hope, urging listeners to rely not on their own strength but on God’s.
