David Selassie Anthony, popularly known as “De Accra Mayor” or “Dee Mayor,” has declared his intention to contest the position of Deputy National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His declaration comes as the party opens nominations for members seeking to contest various positions ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a press statement, Mr Anthony said his campaign would focus on strengthening grassroots mobilisation, improving support for party organisers, and promoting effective resource and logistics mobilisation ahead of the 2028 polls.
He explained that his decision followed consultations with party members, organisers and supporters across the country. He added that he intended to serve the party structures that sustain its operations between elections.
Mr Anthony said his agenda included strengthening constituency and regional organising structures, improving coordination between grassroots members and the national leadership, and creating opportunities for grassroots supporters to contribute meaningfully to the party’s development.
As part of his proposed priorities, he pledged to make constituency and regional organising structures more functional through clearly defined responsibilities, regular communication and effective channels for addressing concerns.
He also emphasised the need to improve the welfare of party organisers, adding that those who dedicate their time and resources to party activities should receive sustained recognition and support beyond election periods.
On preparations for the 2028 general elections, Mr Anthony said the party needed to begin organising early to ensure that its structures were adequately prepared for effective mobilisation and participation at the local level.
He indicated that he would outline specific commitments on grassroots organisation and political mobilisation in the coming weeks.
According to the statement, Mr Anthony has served the NDC in various capacities, including as a Branch Communications Officer, a Constituency Executive and a member of the National Communications Team responsible for social media during the party’s years in opposition.
He has also worked as a personal assistant to the party’s National Communications Officer, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi.
His declaration adds to discussions surrounding the NDC’s organisational leadership as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.
