Double shooting in Sakumono: 57-year-old man and niece killed in debt dispute; police offer GH¢100,000 bounty

On Friday, 30 October 2026, 57-year-old George Atuguba and his 47-year-old niece Irene Atuguba were fatally shot at their home in the NTHC Estate, Sakumono, in Ghana’s Greater Accra Region.

According to police, the double killing stemmed from an alleged financial dispute involving a GH¢500,000 debt. George Atuguba is said to have borrowed the sum from the main suspect, Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, and not repaid it. That morning, Osei Anto arrived at the residence accompanied by 47-year-old Beatrice Mumuni to press for repayment. An argument broke out, during which Osei Anto is alleged to have opened fire and killed both victims. Officers arrived to find the bodies in pools of blood; the pair were taken to hospital, declared dead on arrival, and later transferred to the Police Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.

The Baatsona Divisional Police Command is handling the probe. Beatrice Mumuni has been taken into custody, with police stating she guided the principal suspect to the scene. Samuel Christopher Osei Anto remains at large and has been declared wanted. A GH¢100,000 reward is being offered by the Ghana Police Service for reliable information that leads to his capture, and the public has been asked to report any tip-offs to the nearest station or via the emergency lines 191 or 18555. Some accounts indicate he may have been attempting to flee the country, prompting immigration authorities to be notified.
