Ghana has reaffirmed its position as a strategic investment destination in Africa, highlighting economic reforms, investment opportunities and strong partnerships as key pillars of the country’s transformation agenda at the Africa Business Investment Summit (ABIS) 2026.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, the Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi (MP), said Ghana believes in “Africa’s moment” and is prepared to work with investors and partners who share confidence in the continent’s future.
The summit, held at MGM National Harbor in Washington, D.C., brought together government officials, investors, development finance institutions, captains of industry and private-sector leaders to explore opportunities for investment, enterprise growth and economic development across Africa.
Hon. Ahi described Africa as a continent endowed with vast natural resources, a young and growing population, expanding consumer markets and innovative entrepreneurs.
He noted that the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) has created the foundation for one of the world’s biggest economic opportunities, connecting more than 1.3 billion people with a combined GDP exceeding US$3.5 trillion.
He said Ghana’s ongoing economic reset has helped strengthen investor confidence through improved macroeconomic stability, economic growth and increased foreign direct investment.
Mr. Ahi cited that Ghana recorded real GDP growth of 6 percent in 2025, while non-oil GDP expanded by 7.6 percent during the same period.
The country’s economy continued its strong performance into 2026, recording first-quarter growth of 6.4 percent.
The Deputy Minister stressed that Ghana’s vision extends beyond economic recovery to economic transformation through industrialisation, value addition, productivity and job creation.
He highlighted the government’s 24-Hour Economy Programme and the Investment Opportunities Mapping Project as strategic initiatives designed to increase production, attract investment and ensure that economic opportunities are distributed across the country.
Hon. Ahi outlined investment prospects in key sectors including energy, technology, agriculture, mining, tourism, maritime development, infrastructure and manufacturing. He said the Feed Ghana Programme would position agriculture as a major driver of economic transformation by increasing food production, reducing imports, creating jobs and supplying industries with reliable raw materials.
Ghana’s industrialisation agenda also featured prominently, with emphasis placed on the development of industrial parks and special economic zones, including the Greater Kumasi Industrial City and Special Economic Zone, Dawa Industrial Zone and Tema Integrated Industrial Park, which are expected to accelerate manufacturing growth.
The Deputy Minister said Ghana’s role as host of the AfCFTA Secretariat further strengthens the country’s position as a gateway for investors seeking access to the African market, stressing that investment in Ghana represents an opportunity to invest in Africa.
“Let history record that we did not only gather to speak about Africa’s future. We gathered to invest in it, and to build it,” he said.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who graced the summit, urged investors to take Africa’s opportunities seriously while calling on African leaders to create the right systems and enabling environment to attract sustainable investment.
He stressed that good governance is not only a political responsibility but also an economic asset capable of strengthening investor confidence and accelerating development.
Welcoming participants to the summit, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America, H.E. Victor Smith, said investments must contribute to building an Africa where young people can realise their dreams and aspirations rather than being compelled to leave the continent in search of opportunities.
He called for partnerships that create jobs, expand opportunities and empower Africa’s youth to contribute meaningfully to the continent’s growth.
