The flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has assured that he will prioritise job creation when elected in the upcoming polls in December.
The opposition leader explained that the party had a blue print that will address the high rate of youth unemployment under the Akufo-Addo government.
He acknowledged the role the youth play to enhance the country’s development, stressing that jobs will be created in all sectors of the economy to tackle joblessness.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement in Fumbisi, in the Upper East Region, Mr Mahama emphasized the importance of infrastructure development in creating sustainable jobs for the people.
Highlighting some of the initiatives that will help create jobs, Mr Mahama said his proposed 24-hour economy policy aims to encourage businesses to operate longer hours, thereby creating jobs for the people.
“Jobs jobs jobs, must be the priority for everybody and that is the priority for the next NDC government. Like I said we’ll do infrastructure but we are going to concentrate on the things that will create jobs for our young people. That’s why one of the policies we are introducing is the 24-hour economy. It’s a very simple thing.”
“There are businesses all over Ghana, there are new businesses that are going to come. We are asking that those businesses work longer than the usual eight-hour day, thus working from eight o’clock in the morning to five o’clock in the evening,” he added
