Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has jumped to the defense of the Running Mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), on whether or not the Manhyia North MP is arrogant.
Speaking at the launch of the NPP 2024 manifesto in Takoradi, the Western Regional capital, Afenyo-Markin who is also the MP for Effutu indicated that if the utterances of NAPO makes him arrogant, he will still deliver when he becomes the Vice President of Ghana.
Describing him as capable, the Majority Leader said NAPO, no matter how arrogant, “can transform the economy with his arrogance.”
Dr Opoku Prempeh has been labelled by political actors and a section of Ghanaians as arrogant for how he defends his party and its legacies.
Recently, a speech he made after he was outdoored as Dr Bawumia’s Running Mate, sought to denigrate Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
He said President Akufo-Addo had worked harder to make Ghana great than any president the country has ever had, adding “not even your Kwame Nkrumah.”
Political analysts and social media users descended on NAPO for what they described as making a loose statement.
Going into a keenly contested elections between former President John Mahama of NDC and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP, NAPO’s way of speaking publicly has become a matter of concern to his party.
The remarks of Afenyo-Markin confirms that the NPP have noted that their Running Mate is a loose talker but capable of delivering when given the mandate to be Ghana’s Vice President.
