Police hunt killers of 16-year-old at Amasu galamsey site

The Bono Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for unknown gunmen who shot and killed a 16-year-old boy at an illegal mining site in Amasu, a farming community in the Dormaa East District.

The victim, identified as Issahaku Ansu, was reportedly attacked on Sunday, August 31, 2025, while engaged in illegal mining.

Preliminary police investigations suggest he was shot from a nearby bush, forcing other miners to flee.

A police team later found his body with multiple gunshot wounds to the back. Blood was also seen oozing from his nostrils.

The teenager was dressed only in a blood-soaked pair of wine-coloured boxer shorts, which has been retained as evidence.

The body has since been deposited at the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Police say efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators, describing the incident as a heinous crime.

They have assured residents of Amasu and neighbouring communities of their safety and urged calm as investigations continue.
