The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketia, has challenged the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to publicly declare his commitment to a peaceful handover of power to whoever wins the December 7, 2024 Presidential election.
According to Mr Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, the President’s rhetoric to make sure he hands over power to his chosen candidate for the NPP, can be considered as mere campaign platform talk.
Speaking at the NDC 2024 election campaign launch in Tamale, he said it has become necessary for Mr Akufo Addo to make that full commitment to Ghanaians and the international community that he will hand over peacefully as his predecessors did.
“Rawlings promised to hand over power a year before the 2020 elections and he honoured his plege peacefully to Kufuor who also did same to Professor Atta Mills. John Mahama handed over power to you when he lost in 2016 and we expect you to do same” – Mr Asiedu Nketia added
The NDC Chairman emphasised that such statements undermine the democratic process and raise questions about the President’s willingness to respect the election outcome.
