President John Dramani Mahama has held bilateral talks with Prime Minister on key sectors of the economy for the mutual benefits of the two countries.
The discussions focused on improving healthcare, education, maritime development and security.
President Mahama as since wooed Jamaican and investors in the Caribbean to choose Africa as the preferred destination. He said Ghana’s youthful population coupled with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) makes it a destination of choice for investment.
“Ghana offers investors access to the African Continental Free Trade Area, a market of 54 countries, 1.4 billion people and a combined GDP of nearly three trillion dollars. At the same time, I encourage Ghanaian investors to explore opportunities in Jamaica, particularly in real estate, construction, manufacturing and other sectors” he stressed.
President Mahama further indicated that parliament is working towards the full implementation of the Air Service Agreement between the two nations which when operational, will allow direct flights between Accra and Montego Bay through national or third-party carriers.
“We must fast-track the implementation of our Bilateral Air Services Agreement, which is currently before Ghana’s Parliament” he hinted.
Monday’s discussions with Prime Minister Andrew Holness also focused on Defense cooperation agreement between Ghana and Jamaica for strengthen security as well as health exchange to allow Ghanaian health professionals to work in Jamaica.
“ Defense Cooperation Agreement that will strengthen military cooperation between our two countries. The agreement will also improve our ability to respond quickly to disasters affecting either country” he said
President Mahama who commended Jamaica for its resilience following Hurricane Melissa said Ghana was proud to have sent soldiers to assist the Caribbean nation.
