The widow of the late Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) who was a victim of the August 6, 2025 helicopter tragedy has made a passionate appeal to government not to relent in the fight against illegal mining.
According to Abigail Aboagye, the task for which her late husband alongside seven others died remain unfinished and must be completed.
“The rivers he was going to defend are still being poisoned, the land is still bleeding” she said in an emotional tribute
Speaking at the national inter-faith memorial service to mark the one-year anniversary of the ‘departed 8’ at the University of Professional Studies Accra on Thursday, she stated that “Samuel died on his way to a fight that is yet not finished”.
She said while the family acknowledges the contributions and support to the family, the greatest tribute to the departed is to finish the work to which they lost their lives.
“The truest tribute we can pay this age is not a speech, it is to finish their work” she appealed.
The National Inter-Faith Memorial service was attended by President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, Chief of Staff Dr. Julius Debrah, Heads of the Security services, diplomatic Community, the clergy among other dignitaries.
Prayers were said for the families and the nation.
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed – Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and MP for Tamale Central, Dr. Samuel Sarpong – First Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Aboagye – Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru is the Minister of State in charge of Human Resources Department and Scholarships at the Presidency, Deputy Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah died in a tragic helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 in the Ashanti region.
