NPP will hand over power just as they did with the SSNIT hotels- Joshua Alabi

The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 Campaign Team, Professor Joshua Alabi has assured the rank and file of the party and Ghanaians at large that the NDC will take over power from the New Patriotic Party smoothly.

According to him, just as the President and NPP gurus and it’s allies were compelled to take hands off the SSNIT hotels without a gun pointed at their heads, so will they hand over power to the NDC.

Prof Joshua Alabi who was addressing NDC supporters at the 2024 campaign launch at Tamale said – “Ghana is moving in the wrong direction, they will lose and hand over and run away and we are assuring everybody that we will protect your votes so go and vote,”

Prof. Alabi was also particularly worried about the high levels of unemployment amongst the youth.
He emphasized that democracy should focus on the welfare of the masses rather than the interests of the leader and his family, which he claims is the current government’s priority.

Drawing an analogy, he compared democracy to a football match, where the goal is to celebrate a victory and go to sleep, but democracy is all about the benefits for everyone.

According to him, the primary reason for the launch was to intensify the fight against state capture by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), led by President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice-President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, now the NPP’s flagbearer.

He called on Ghanaians to join the communal labour by turning out in their numbers for the NDC to stop the state capture by the NPP and its affiliates in government.

Women’s Development Bank will empower female entrepreneurs; targets 1 million beneficiaries – Jane Opoku-Agyemang

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Running Mate to National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, says the pledge to establish a special women’s bank is borne out of research and feedback from female entrepreneurs particularly traders.

To be known as the Women Development Bank, the NDC policy initiative she said is designed to offer soft loans to ordinary women who find it difficult to raised capital to nurture and grow women-owned, women-led businesses.

Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang who was addressing the NDC campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, said the well thought through initiative follows complaints about strict requirements like high collaterals demanded by banks and other financial institutions, which many of the potential female millionaires do not have.

“Women are willing to support their husbands. If we empower them, it will make life easy for their families and we expect our men, to join this good course by voting NDC into power”

She highlighted the potential benefits of empowering women in entrepreneurship, noting that when women prosper, they invest in their children and wider families. “There is better stability and peace at home; most will demand less ‘chop money’,”

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, added that the Women Development Bank which is intended to empower one million women across the country, will give out interest free loans.

“What do they bring? All we are saying is that, it is a small amount and you came for GHC4,000 or GHC5,000, you bring us back just the 4,000 or 5,000. Don’t bring any interest because a lot of the women are forced to go for loans and you go for GHC2,000 they tell you bring GHC2,000 more.”

President Akufo-Addo must publicly declare his commitment to peaceful transfer of power – Asiedu Nketia demands

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketia, has challenged the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to publicly declare his commitment to a peaceful handover of power to whoever wins the December 7, 2024 Presidential election.

According to Mr Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, the President’s rhetoric to make sure he hands over power to his chosen candidate for the NPP, can be considered as mere campaign platform talk.

Speaking at the NDC 2024 election campaign launch in Tamale, he said it has become necessary for Mr Akufo Addo to make that full commitment to Ghanaians and the international community that he will hand over peacefully as his predecessors did.

“Rawlings promised to hand over power a year before the 2020 elections and he honoured his plege peacefully to Kufuor who also did same to Professor Atta Mills. John Mahama handed over power to you when he lost in 2016 and we expect you to do same” – Mr Asiedu Nketia added

The NDC Chairman emphasised that such statements undermine the democratic process and raise questions about the President’s willingness to respect the election outcome.

Be vigilant – We aren’t sleeping till results are declared – Mahama to NDC

John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on party members to lace their boots to protect ballots come December 7, 2024.

Speaking at the NDC’s campaign launch in Tamale on Saturday, July 27, 2024, Mr Mahama said the battle ahead to kick the failed NPP government out will be tough and it will take commitment and the collective effort of all to prevent anyone or group from manipulating he process.

“Everybody needs to prepare, we’re not going to sleep for 48 hours until all the ballots have been counted. None of us is going to sleep for 48 hours until all the ballots have been counted.”

The NDC 2024 flagbearer also cautioned the rank and file of the party against complacency.
“Once we launch this campaign we are not going to sit. We are going to go from market to market. We are going to go from trotro station to trotro station. We are going to go from house to house. We are going to go from shop to shop.

He added – ”Don’t wait till the campaign teams come before you come and follow our convoy. Even when we are not there you must be working.”
He noted that the party leadership is closely monitoring every process and will block any attempt to steal the people’s mandate.

“We have had our issue with the Electoral Commission, but we’re prepared to give them the benefits of the doubt,” he assured.

“And I wish to assure all Ghanaians who intend to vote for the NDC, I can promise you that we will protect every single vote.

2024 election: Defy Akufo-Addo’s pressure, do what is right or prepare to face the consequences – Asiedu Nketia to security capos; urges religious, traditional leaders to speak out

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has issued a strong warning to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) to stand by the oath the swore and resist any undue pressure from President Akufo-Addo in the days ahead and during the December 7, 2024 elections.

Mr Asiedu Nketia, who was addressing the NDC national campaign launch at Tamale on Saturday stressed the significance of the security forces’ independence and neutrality, warning of dire consequences should there be any attempt to circumvent the will of the people.

The outspoken NDC Chairman whose christened his speech as a special letter the President and those in charge of the peace and security of this country was emphatic about the high level of disappointment, suspicion over attempts to manipulate the process at all cost and said those who allow themselves to be manipulated will suffer the consequences.

“If you fail, on the day of accountability, you will not have the president who is pressuring you now to come to your defence, you will be left on your own and your God.

“This is the time for positive defiance. You cannot be following wrong instructions under the excuse of order from above, no order from above. You swore an oath to protect this country – he added

Mr Asiedu Nketia continued – “My message to the IGP and the Chief of Defense Staff is simple, the day you were commissioned into leadership of our security services, you swore an oath to protect the interest of Ghanaians. You didn’t swear to protect the interest of any regime that is in power for the time being.”

He also advised members of the Council of State, traditional authorities, the Clergy and well-meaning Ghanaians not to sit on the fence but speak out on matters that threaten the security of the state.
Mr Asiedu Nketia’s caution comes in the wake of alleged secret recruitment of NPP foot soldiers into security agencies for deployment on December 7 to supress voters and appointments to the Electoral Commission to facilitate vote rigging.

“4 years of good leadership better than 8 years of a dishonest leader” – John Mahama

The Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has urged Ghanaians to be mindful of deception and vote out this government for abysmal performance.

Speaking at the launch of the NDC’s national campaign in Tamale on Saturday, July 27, Mr Mahama said the argued that the youth cannot afford to waste another four years trying out the over-hyped Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, whose credibility has sank very low as a result of his own lies over the past eight years.

Mahama emphasised that Dr. Bawumia does not deserve the opportunity to lead the country, given his past performance, stating that the youth are clamouring for an experienced hand who will create opportunities for them.

“Four years is enough to reset Ghana. Four years of good leadership is better than 8 years of a dishonest leader. It is not about how long you serve but about how well you serve” – he emphasized.

The former President added “The youth of this country don’t have four years to waste. The youth of this country are in a hurry to create the opportunities that will make them live a dignified life. They are not going to try somebody and four years take him off. The youth want an experienced hand.”

He urged the electorate to consider the track records of the candidates and make an informed decision that will benefit the nation.

The NDC flagbearer stressed that the youth are clamouring for an experienced hand to create real opportunities for them, implying that his own leadership would better serve the country’s future.
“On December 7, Ghana must change course, we cannot solve the crisis in which we are with the same people who caused the problem.

Several years ago, somebody [President Akufo-Addo] came and said try me, the result is what we’re seeing today. Today, another person [Dr Bawumia] has come and he’s also saying try me.

“And he’s saying the same things the one who has put us in this ditch said eight years ago. And what they are saying is that if they don’t deliver after four years, change me.

Ghanaians expected e-levy, other taxes to be abolished – Minority jabs Amin Adam

The Minority in Parliament says the government missed a fine opportunity to abolish taxes such as e-levy which has suffocated Ghanaians in recent times.

Minority Leader, Dr cassiel Ato Forson, who bemoaned the government’s failure to scrap some taxes indicated that apart from the E-levy, Ghanaians expected taxes such as Emission Levy, and COVID Levy to be removed.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament after the mid-year budget statement by Finance Minister, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam on Tuesday, July 23, the Ejumako Enyan Essian lawmaker accused the Akufo-Addo-led administration of lacking ideas to handle the economy.

According him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration is heading into opposition because of their lack of ideas.

“Ghanaians expected that the government would have removed a number of taxes because businesses are packing out of the country.

“The taxes include covid levy, e-levy, ‘borla’ tax, tax on domestic electricity, emission levy. This is a missed opportunity. They are bereft of ideas, you are on your way to opposition,” he said.

During the mid-year budget presentation, the Finance Minister said that the provisional total debt stock of Ghana stood at GH¢742 billion, representing US$50.9 billion as of June 2024.

This represents 70.6 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) he said during the 2024 mid-year budget review in parliament on Tuesday.

“The stock consists of external debt of GH¢452.0 billion and domestic debt of GH¢290.0 billion, representing 60.9 percent and 39.1 percent of the total debt stock, respectively. As a percentage of GDP, external and domestic debt represented 43.0 percent and 27.6 percent, respectively. This indicates an increase of 22 percent due to the effect of the cedi depreciation and continuous disbursements from creditors,” he explained.
