Pentecost University’s Dr Amo Baffour to contest for NDC Nat. Vice Chairman position

Dr Alexander Amo Baffour,a renowned economist and lecturer of the Pentecost University in Accra, has declared intention to join the NDC National Vice Chairmanship race when nominations are opened by the party.

Speaking to Piesie Okrah on Power FM ‘sAsem Kesie‘ programme on Thursday night, the educationist indicated that his ambition was driven by the seeming gap between the grassroot of the party and its leadership.

“The NDC, at all forms, looks attractive after winning power but we need to do more to get the base of the party to be strong through deliberate policies aimed at strengthening the very people who toiled to get us to power,” he noted while arguing that such a move will go a long way to sustain the party at all levels.

Dr Amo Baffour, who began his political journey by becoming a polling agent for the NDC at the University of Ghana in 2004 during his undergraduate studies, said his commitment to the party from the grassroot level has given him a fair idea of how the leadership of the party can solidify the base of the NDC while in power unlike in previous years.

He observed that mostly, the party leadership loses touch with its branches due to the busy schedules of those in leadership roles, creating a gap between the grassroot and the party’s leaders.

“I believe when some of us are given the opportunity to serve at the party front, the gap between the party branches and the leadership will be bridged to foster unprecedented unity that will help secure victory for the party always,” he stated in Akan.

Although he observed the Mahama administration has performed extremely well by putting the taxpayers first, he argued that the branches of the party across the country ought to be resourced to be able to continue that duties as was done prior to the 2024 elections.

Asked what he will do differently when elected into office, he explained that from the experience gained as a Patron for TEIN at the Pentecost University, and a National Vice Chairman for the NDC in China while pursuing his PhD, he would focus on re-energizing the grassroot to avert apathy at all times.

“While the Chairman of the NDC at Nanjing Chapter at China, I learnt a lot about mobilization of party supporters and did same when I returned to Ghana. I can bring that to bare to ensure the grassroots do not feel neglected,” he assured.

Dr Amoh Baffour was a branch chairman for the ‘Presby A’ branch at Sakumono in the Tema West Constituency where he has lived for years.

He was also a polling agent for his home constituency –Kwadaso in Kumasi – during the 2004 elections.

He has earned a PhD in Management Sciences and Engineering, MBA in Finance and Investment Management from Institutions in Ghana, London and China.

He is also an International Market Development and Economic Analyst.

His vision is to bridge the gap between the branches of the NDC and its leadership for national development.

Make yourselves accessible to the grassroots – Tawiah Boateng to Mahama’s appointees

Former Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Bismark Tawiah Boateng, has urged the appointees in the newly created government to accord their peers who have not yet been assigned roles by President Mahama.

The NDC stalwart who was speaking to King Nicholas on Power 97.9 FM Thursday afternoon admonished the newly appointed Managing Directors and CEOs of various State Departments and Agencies not to avoid party grassroots when they need opportunities in the new government.

The former Chairman stressed that the appointees are occupying privileged positions because the grassroots toiled to win the NDC power in last December’s fierce polls.

“When the people look for you, make yourselves accessible when you have time,” Mr. Boateng said but quickly acknowledged that the task ahead of the appointees may be tough but hastened that they must find ways of meeting with “party grassroots who worked to bring us to power.”

He said that was the only way to ensure the party’s unity to retain power beyond 2028.

He emphasised the appointees’ impact of supporting party activities while getting in touch with the grassroots to enable them know the needs of the people they are serving.

“We know you are tasked to do a lot but please, I am urging that when the people call you, find a way to get in touch with them.”

“When they call you, answer them. The grassroots need jobs; they need opportunities and that’s the reason they contact you.”

He went on to narrate their struggles they encountered during the 2024 campaign and advised that the appointees “tell people something convincing when they get in touch.”

Mr Tawiah’s comment comes at a time some members of the NDC are agitating on various social media platforms, raising concerns that they worked hard for the party during the electioneering yet they have been neglected by the appointing authorities.

Some even accuse President Mahama’s appointees for employing persons from the opposition including Journalists who never contributed to the victory of the NDC in 2024.

A/R: NDC members storm party office to seek job placements

A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in the Ashanti Region today assembled at the party’s regional office to seek job placements as a reward for their contributions to the party’s victory in the 2024 general elections.

Seidu Isshaku, the Ashanti Regional NDC Taskforce Coordinator, who led the aggrieved party members said they were promised job placements and, as such, will not back down until their demands are met and the promises fulfilled.

“We have been neglected after Mr. Mahama promised to offer us jobs. He informed us not to leave the voting centers until he was declared the winner.

“We heeded this advice, we worked diligently on the voting day and he was announced the winner, but he has failed to fulfil his promise to us. Nobody has recognised our efforts, we haven’t heard anything from the presidency.

“People who are not part of NDC have been appointed to juicy agencies, and we have been left out. We want our share of the appointments.

President Mahama must consider PWDs in his appointments – B.O.T appeals

Certified economist and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Oduro Takyi, has urged President John Mahama to consider Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in his appointments.

President Mahama has appointed his cabinet ministers and some CEOs into state agencies within two weeks after his inauguration.

Oduro Takyi who was instrumental in the national campaign of the NDC believes after campaigning for PWDs to vote for the party, they deserve some appointments.

Speaking on The Gumbe Show on TV XYZ, B.O.T made a strong case for PWDs, and sought to remind the appointing authorities of the party’s commitment to run an all inclusive government.

He recalled the appointment of Dr Seidu Danaa, a visually impaired man, to head the then Chieftaincy Ministry under the Mahama administration and cautioned the government to take into consideration the interest of PWDs.

“The NDC is the only political party in Africa that set up a desk for People with disabilities prior  to the elections,” he stated.

“That desk the party created has never happened anywhere. President John Mahama, although has taken regional balance into consideration while appointing people to serve, he must also consider people with disabilities,” he added.

To him, PWDs are in the minority but must be seen in government to foster inclusivity governance.

He argued that “the total population for people with disabilities in the country constitutes about 13.2 per cent of our national population and must be included in the government.”

He further added, that considering them will enable such people to have confidence in the government that it is representing their interests– a decision B.O.T believes will significantly heighten the goodwill of the new government.

We’ll soon investigate spending on National Cathedral – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to investigate the National Cathedral Project, an initiative spearheaded by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a national Christian worship centre and symbol of Ghana’s religious heritage.

The project has been plagued by allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement, raising concerns about its execution and funding.

Speaking at a Christian National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), President Mahama questioned the financial prudence of the project, especially given Ghana’s current economic hardships.

“On the vexed issue of the National Cathedral, CHRAJ directed the government to audit the project and investigate any misuse of public funds. We will soon activate an investigation into the project,” he stated.

He further criticized the cost of the initiative, saying, “In the current circumstances that Ghana is going through, it makes no sense to achieve such a project at a whopping sum of $400 million. I am informed that the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, which is used by the Christian faith in Nigeria, was built at the cost of $30 million.”

The announcement signals the government’s intent to address concerns about transparency and accountability surrounding the project.

NDC files notice of appeal after High Court ordered completion of results collation in 4 constituencies

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has filed a notice of appeal after a High Court in Accra granted the New Patriotic Party’s mandamus application by ordering the Electoral Commission to complete the collation and declaration of parliamentary results in four disputed constituencies.

The Court also ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide the Electoral Commission with adequate security to complete the processes.

The constituencies are Tema Central, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central and Techiman South. The NPP had argued that the processes in the constituencies were not concluded and that the declaration of the results could not stand.

The court upheld the NPP’s argument, granting its mandamus application by ordering a conclusion of all collation processes before a declaration is made on who won the election.

Shortly after Saturday’s hearing, the NDC’s Director of Legal Affairs, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, stated that the party would appeal the High Court ruling.

Speaking to journalists after the judgment by the High Court in Accra, Mr Tameklo explained that the party had prepared its notices of appeal to challenge the High Court judgment, which granted the mandamus application.

“This matter is not yet over. Nobody should be deceived. It will not end here. We are appealing the decision,” he said.

That notice of appeal has now been filed with barely three days left for the swearing-in of newly-elected Members of Parliament.

‘Wicked’ NPP should not taste power anytime soon – Asiedu Nketiah

The NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has urged Ghanaians to trust the incoming John Mahama government to serve them adequately.

Although he said the outgoing NPP led by Nana Akufo-Addo has created unprecedented mess in the country, the incoming NDC is poised to work in the interest of the masses.

The NDC leader who is on a ‘thank you tour’ of his home region –Bono– has been talking about the need to retain NDC in power for a long time to rebuild what the outgoing Government, led by President Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia have collapsed.

Appreciating the people for voting convincingly for the NDC Presidential candidate, HE John Mahama and the party’s parliamentary candidates, Asiedu Nketiah said the people of Bono do not need to go back to the NPP since the party did not prioritize their needs while in power.

Addressing a crowd at Sunyani, the capital of Bono, the NDC leader emphasized that the appreciation of the NDC’s votes in the region during the recent elections indicates the people have been enlightened and need proper representation in government.

“Before 2020 elections, we had only one out of twelve seats in Parliament. When I became the National Chairman, we increased our seats to 6.

“Through our collective hard work, we won 11 seats out of the 12 in the entire region. And for the first time, we won the two Sunyani seats which had been occupied by the NPP for many years,” he said while appreciating the efforts of the people.

To him, since the NPP MPs, Amewu Cheremeh of Sunyani East and Ignatius Baffour Awuah of Sunyani West took the people for granted for many years, the NPP needs not be tolerated by the people in future elections.

“We have to take hold of these seats for a very long time because the NPP and the elephant do not think about your progress,” Asiedu chastised.

“That is the reason we killed (defeated) the elephant nationwide and had to come and slaughter it here in Sunyani (by winning their traditional seats)” he mocked.

Asiedu Nketiah’s tour also took him to Berekum East and West constituencies which hitherto were traditional seats for the NPP.

He also met the chiefs and people of Tain, his home constituency on Saturday.

He is expected to visit the remaining 7 constituencies within the weekend.

Mr Asiedu was accompanied by former Ashanti Regional Minister and National Vice Chairman, Dr Samuel Sarpong, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NDC, Ambassador Nyamekye Marfo, former MP for Akwatia, Baba Jamal and a host of regional and constituency executives.

The time is now to reset Ghana’s economy – Mahama to Ghanaians

The NDC presidential candidate, John Mahama, has urged Ghanaians to reject the governing NPP and their impunity during the elections on Saturday and choose a leadership that understands their challenges.

Speaking at the NDC’s final campaign rally in Madina, Accra, the former president noted the hardship the Akufo-Addo-led adminstration has pushed Ghanaians into, stressing that the current government deceived Ghanaians to vote them to power.

Courting the votes of the Ghanaian youth, Mahama said the time to vote to change the current direction of the country is on Saturday, December 7.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the time to reset our country, Ghana, is now.

“Saturday’s election is not just another election. It is a defining moment for our nation. It is a choice between the Ghana we have and the Ghana we want—a Ghana of opportunity, prosperity, and justice for all,” the former Head of State urged.

Mahama intimated that the young people of the country “deserve to live in a Ghana where their voices are heard and their dreams become realities.”

“The working people deserve decent, sustainable jobs that enable them to care for their families and live with pride. I mean well-paying jobs,” he said while assuring Ghanaians that his administration will put pragmatic steps in place to achieve that.

“People in the public sector deserve recognition for their merit. They also deserve stability, predictability, and good working conditions.”

“Our entrepreneurs deserve a free and fair market where their ingenuity and industry can flourish,” Mahama assured.

Touching on the welfare of females, who constitute the larger population of the country , the NDC flag bearer pledged to implement policies that will empower women and give them the dignity they deserve.

“Women and girls deserve true equality, safety, and the chance to reach their full potential. And every Ghanaian deserves leadership that puts the people first, fights corruption, and builds a nation we can all be proud of.”

In terms of jobs for the youth, Mahama reiterated his commitment to implement the much-talked about 24-Hour Economy Policy to create sustainable jobs for Ghanaians to live decently.

“This is why I am committed to building a stable, safe and viable 24-hour economy that creates opportunities for millions of jobs.

“I am committed to implementing economic measures to fight inflation and make food affordable for all households,” he added.

Ghanaians go to the polls on Saturday, December 7 to vote in a crucial election with former president John Mahama seeking a return to the presidency.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Ghana’s Vice President and leader of the NPP is also seeking to replace his Boss, President Nana Akufo-Addo who has secured his mandated two terms.

Ghanaians are keen on the economy as they prepare to vote.

Corruption and impunity among high profile Government officials are key factors Ghanaians are considering in the run up to the polls.

Although, Bawumia is campaigning on post COVID solid economic fortunes and the Free SHS policy, some voters believe their finances have dwindled over the past few years, and that the economy will be the key determinant of their direction of votes.

The NDC campaign Committee on mining has urged miners in the Ashanti Region to vote for the flag bearer of the party, John Mahama, for a robust mining sector.

Next NDC Gov’t will pay cocoa farmers realistic prices – Asiedu Nketiah Jnr

Dr. Kwaku Asiedu Nketiah Jnr., the Vice Chairman of the NDC’s National Youth Working Committee, has urged cocoa farmers in the country to vote overwhelmingly for the party and its flag bearer, former President John Mahama to rescue them from hardship.

The youth activist who is also a farmer emphasised that the Akufo-Addo government has short-changed farmers on many occasions since assuming power in 2017.

For instance, he said the government under Akufo-Addo and Bawumia cancelled a free fertiliser programme initiated by the erstwhile NDC government for farmers, adding that the current cocoa producer price is a total rip off.

In a community engagement with first time voters in the Dormaa West District in the Bono Region, Dr Asiedu Nketiah Jnr stated that cocoa farmers in neighbouring Togo and Ivory Coast have better cocoa prices than Ghana because their governments care for them, unlike Ghana.

He then urged them to vote against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a protégé of Akufo-Addo who aided the President to impoverish farmers.

He made these remarks at Yaw Wusukrom, near Nkrankwanta, while touring his home region.

Yaw Wusukrom is a farming community in the Dormaa West Constituency, with a population of over 1,000 people, most of whom are cocoa farmers. The area is known for growing cash crops like cashew and cocoa, and its vast forests provide timber, which generates foreign exchange for the country.

However, despite these resources, the area looks neglected after eight years of the Akufo-Addo administration.

Local people in the area believe the government is punishing them for voting overwhelmingly for the NDC.

As part of his tour, Dr. Asiedu Nketiah Jnr. highlighted the projects the NDC has undertaken in the area since the constituency was established in June 2012.

In his view, the people require better roads, healthcare facilities, and access to potable water to survive.

He alleged that the NPP has resorted to vote-buying and has urged the people to be wise and vote against them.

“The NPP has started sharing money to buy your votes because their internal polls have pointed to a loss. Take the money when they offer it to you, because it’s your own money, and vote against them,” he said.

Dr. Asiedu Nketiah Jr. said the farmers were being cheated, while assuring them that the John Mahama government will restore the good policies they were enjoying.

He was accompanied by former MCE for Berekum, Hon. Lord Opoku Stephen, the MP for the area, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, NDC Bono Communication Officer Charles Akowuah, and Bono NDC Youth Organizer Kwaku Rooney.
