Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to lead a nationwide demonstration against the Electoral Commission over ‘questionable’ Voter register on September 17.
John Mahama gave the hint when he called on NDC supporters across the country and well meaning Ghanaians in general to mass up at Electoral Commissions’s district offices across the country to demand an immediate forensic audit into the provisional voter register
His appeal follows the decision by the largest oposition party, the National Democratic Congress to embark on a demonstration on Tuesday, September 17 to pile pressure on the Electoral Commission to clean the voters register.
Addressing a Durbar of Chiefs and People of Sampa in the Bono Region as part of his campaign, Mr Mahama reiterated the party’s demand.
“When the voters register was given,we saw a lot of errors. If we want the election to be free and fair, and live peacefully in this country, then the EC must sit up and do the right thing” he said
He is thus calling on the rank and file of Ghanaians join join the 17th September protest.
“On the 17th of this month NDC is going to demonstrate in every town that has an EC office. Our chairman has announced it” he rehashed
Mr. Mahama added that members of the party as well as all well meaning Ghanaians should join this worthy cause in ensuring that the peace of the nation is not sacrificed on the altar of personal gratification .
“You were your T- shirt and you go and demonstrate to the EC office so that we can put pressure on them to do their job and do what they have to do in order to ensure a peaceful and transparent election” he rallied
National Chairman of the party Johnson Asiedu Nketia first made the announcement after filing the nomination of John Mahama for President at the EC headquarters in Accra.
The NDC which has identified several flaws including mass secret transfer of names across constituencies, also noted deliberate omissions and additions which do not tally with records captured during the limited voter registration exercise, demanded a live broadcast of their findings during a meeting with the EV but that was declined
Another request for a forensics audit of the voter register was also turned it down.
