The Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikwei North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Theresa Awuni has supported five (5) schools in her constituency with 400 mono desks and sanitary pads.
She handed the capacity desk to the heads of the beneficial schools at the municipal education office in Accra.
The donation on Wednesday November 6, 2024, follows a passionate appeal made by the Education Unit in the area for assistance.
The schools that benefitted from the desks were Sackey Odoi, Aggrey Basic, Anumely, Achimota Anglican JHS, Anglican primary and JHS and Alogboshie 1 and 2 schools.
The MP at a short presentation ceremony promised to invest more in the educational sector.
“I am not making this donation because it is an election year. I have been supporting our education sector ever since I became the MP for this area,” Madam Awuni told XYZ News.
The Legislator urged the Municipal Director of Education, Madam Cynthia Aboni, to ensure that the desks are used for the intended purpose.
“I hope this goes a long way to help our young ones. When I win, we will continue to support our schools,” the MP assured.
Madam Awuni also donated dozens of boxes of sanitary pads to the Alogboshie A and B Basic Schools.
The headmistress of the school, Madam Joyce Simons who received the sanitary towels and distributed them to the female pupils was full of praise for the MP.
She recounted how some of the pupils miss instructional hours in school due to the inability of their parents to buy sanitary pads for them.
She pleaded with the Madam Awuni and other philanthropists to keep supporting the school from time to time.
