Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah has praised the newly appointed leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) during a solemn induction ceremony held in Accra.
The event marked the official assumption of duties by the new military high command, following their appointments by President John Dramani Mahama, effective March 24, 2025.
The newly appointed Service Chiefs are:
- Major General William Agyapong – Chief of the Defence Staff
- Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu – Chief of Army Staff
- Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing – Chief of Naval Staff
- Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong – Chief of Air Staff
- Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai – Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Minister Boamah lauded the new leadership for their dedication and urged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to equipping and resourcing the military to effectively address contemporary security challenges.
The ceremony also served as a platform to reaffirm the government’s support for the armed forces and its readiness to collaborate with the new leadership to enhance national security.
The appointments and the subsequent induction of the new Service Chiefs signify a strategic move to strengthen Ghana’s defense capabilities and ensure the nation’s security and stability.
