The National Concerned Small Scale Miners Association, Ghana has petitioned the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) to consider extending the deadline for the submission of documents for gold dealership licenses.
The Association, in a letter to the CEO of the GOLDBOD, Mr Sammy Gyamfi, dated May 20, 2025, asked for extension of the submission date mainly due to the inability of most of its members to acquire certain documents from some state agencies to support their applications.
The plea comes after the GOLDBOD earlier this month extended the deadline for gold dealers holding old licences issued by the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) or the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to reapply under the new licensing regime.
The new deadline was set for May 21, 2025, offering dealers an additional three weeks to complete the reapplication process.
But the President of the National Concerned Small Scale Miners Association, Ghana, Mr Michael Kwadwo Peprah, who signed the petition indicated that some of his members have not been able to acquire permits from the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), tax certificates from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) among others, making it difficult for them to meet the deadline for the submission of their application documents.
For these reasons, Mr Peprah asked the GOLDBOD to extend the deadline for the submission of the applications by another month to enable the miners to gather all the necessary documents needed for the processes.
