Ghana gas pipelines secure from illegal mining – Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah

The Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) has assured the public that its pipelines and installations are safe from the threat of illegal mining activities.

Head of Corporate Affairs, Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah, said in an interview on Connect FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show that security around the company’s infrastructure has been reinforced to deter and deal with any interference.

“The pipelines of Ghana Gas remain safe from the activities of illegal mining. Security around the infrastructure has been intensified to ensure that anyone who attempts to interfere with or go near the pipelines will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” Mr. Kirk-Mensah stressed.

He further clarified that the recent temporary shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant for maintenance would not trigger power outages or fuel shortages.

“The temporary shutdown and maintenance works will not result in dumsor or any shortage of gas supply in the country,” he assured.

Mr. Kirk-Mensah also criticized the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration for failing to expand the company’s operations during its tenure.

He disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama’s government will soon roll out the second phase of the project to boost gas infrastructure.

Highlighting the company’s current direction, he said the new management team is focused on restoring Ghana Gas to its original mandate.

“The new management of the Ghana Gas Company is refocusing on the core mandate of the company, which has been deviated from over the years,” he said.

Mr. Kirk-Mensah reiterated that Ghana Gas remains a strategic national asset and urged the public to support efforts aimed at safeguarding its infrastructure for sustainable energy supply and national development.
