Fenerbahce sack Jose Mourinho after brief spell in charge

Fenerbahce have sacked head coach Jose Mourinho, ending one of the most high-profile managerial tenures in Turkish football almost as abruptly as it began.

The Portuguese manager, who has previously led Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Inter Milan and Roma was appointed earlier this year in a move hailed as a coup for the Istanbul giants.

His arrival was expected to deliver both domestic trophies and European success.

In a statement on Thursday, the club said:

“Fenerbahce Sport Club announces that our cooperation with Jose Mourinho has ended. We would like to thank him for his contributions during his tenure and wish him success in his future career.”

No reason was given for the decision.

Despite the brevity of his stay, Mourinho’s presence boosted the global profile of the Turkish Super Lig.

His departure, however, leaves Fenerbahce facing uncertainty just as the new season gains momentum.

The club must now quickly appoint a replacement capable of sustaining both league and European ambitions.

For fans who welcomed Mourinho with passion and high expectations, the dismissal marks a sharp turn of disappointment.
