A brief scuffle broke out at the Akwatia Lorry Polling Station after National Democratic Congress (NDC) First National Vice Chairman, Awudu Sofo Azorka, and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Third National Vice Chairman, Osman Masawudu, engaged in a heated exchange during voting.
TV3’s Armstrong Gold Alorgbey, reporting from the scene, said the incident started when Masawudu mentioned Azorka’s name while speaking to the media.
Azorka, who was nearby, immediately warned him to stop, sparking a back-and-forth that quickly escalated.
What began as banter turned tense when Masawudu continued repeating Azorka’s name, leading to near fisticuffs.
Supporters of both men joined in, but police officers on duty swiftly intervened to separate the rival groups and restore order.
The by-election, triggered by the death of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi, has drawn keen national attention.
More than 50,000 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots in the high-stakes contest between Ghana’s two dominant political parties.
