Otto Addo blames poor pitch after black stars draw with Chad

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has blamed poor pitch conditions at the Stade Olympique Idris Déby Itno for Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Chad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on Thursday.

Ghana went ahead in the 17th minute when Jordan Ayew converted a cross from Mohammed Kudus, but the hosts struck back in the 88th minute through Celestine Ecua to snatch a point in N’Djamena.

Addo said the hard, dry surface disrupted Ghana’s rhythm and slowed their play.

“It’s very difficult to play on this terrain when it’s not watered. We can’t play fast, so it’s a disadvantage for us.

The pitch was very slow, making it hard to outplay defenders. But Chad did well in defending,” he noted.

Despite the setback, Ghana remain top of Group I with 16 points and will next host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, September 8, with kick-off at 7:00 pm GMT.
