The Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agness Naa Momo Lartey, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to ensuring women play a central role in nation-building and decision-making.
Delivering the keynote address at the maiden She Build Conference organised by the Academic Woman Foundation at the Accra International Conference Centre, Dr. Lartey praised Ghana’s progress in amplifying women’s voices in development but stressed the need for renewed national efforts to increase women’s representation in politics and high-level leadership.
She hailed Ghana’s first female Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, as a symbol of progress and an inspiration to future generations.
“Power is not position but inclusion of many. When women lead, societies prosper,” she said, urging Ghanaians to embrace women as equal partners rather than competitors in development.
The conference, themed “Where women are, where are we going, and what we need to do,” brought together women leaders and professionals in academia, law, entrepreneurship, engineering, and media to share strategies for advancing gender equality.
CEO and Founder of the Academic Woman Foundation, Dr. Anatu Mahama, said the initiative was created to tackle workplace barriers and strengthen women’s capacity for leadership.
“This is not only about encouraging women to enter or remain in their professions, but also about empowering them to rise into leadership roles across sectors,” she noted.
Organisers described the maiden edition as the beginning of a transformative movement aimed at fostering collective empowerment and ensuring women’s voices remain central to Ghana’s national progress.
