Daniel Yao Domelevo, former Auditor-General and a member of the committee reviewing petitions against ex-Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has accused former Attorney-General Nii Ayikoi Otoo of submitting forged documents as evidence during the closed-door proceedings.
Speaking on the KSM show, Domelevo stated, “I find Mr. Ayikoi Otoo’s account intriguing. He claimed to have provided me, a former Auditor-General, with all the evidence, implying I ignored it. I want to state clearly that the evidence he presented was fake. Notably, the document he submitted was signed by the Judicial Secretary, a junior to the Chief Justice, purportedly appointing her as Chief Justice.”
This follows Ayikoi Otoo’s accusations that the committee, which recommended Torkornoo’s removal, overlooked key evidence, including the judiciary’s official travel policy.
In a September 1 interview on Joy FM, Otoo maintained that Justice Torkornoo’s vacation request adhered fully to established procedures and entitlements. “When these entitlements are provided, you don’t determine them. You only decide if you want to travel.
The officers calculate your entitlements and present them to you; you’re not personally involved,” he said. Otoo further explained that the judiciary’s travel policy, submitted as evidence, permits a Chief Justice to travel with a companion of their choice, especially without a spouse, a practice he noted was followed by previous Chief Justices.
