The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Hon. Rev. Dr. Kweku Addo, has paid a working visit to the Dansoman Otodjor site following recent irregular rainfall patterns that have raised concerns about potential flooding within the municipality.
The visit aimed to inspect compliance with directives restricting construction and development within the Dansoman flood-prone area and protected wetland zones crucial for flood control.
During the inspection, Hon. Rev. Dr. Addo expressed deep concern over the ongoing large-scale construction activities taking place within water channels and restricted areas, despite repeated warnings and enforcement efforts from the Regional Minister, the Municipal Assembly, and his own office.
He immediately ordered the cessation of all construction works within the Ramsar site and directed that unauthorized structures be demolished to safeguard lives and property in the community.
Hon. Rev. Dr. Addo reaffirmed his commitment to reducing flooding risks in Ablekuma West, stressing that while the government continues to invest in flood prevention projects, some residents’ disregard for building regulations undermines these efforts.
“We are working hard to protect our people from floods, but it’s unfortunate that a few are choosing personal profit over public safety,” he lamented.
The MP assured that his office will continue to collaborate with the Municipal Assembly, NADMO, and other relevant agencies to enforce environmental laws and restore order to all flood-prone areas in the constituency.
